Staff member of the week
Georjean Lipovsky

Georjean has been always been crafty and has pretty much tried every needlework niche out there including sewing, crewel embroidery, crochet, knitting, cross stitch and quilting.  Her first love is cross stitch but lately (for the last 12 years) quilting has come in a very close second.  Actually, at this point it has surpassed cross stitch -there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything!  On the fateful date of Sept., 11, 2001, she took a 'refresher' quilting class (not having done anything quilty for about 16 years!)  Boy, had things changed from the days of making your own templates, tracing them onto fabric and cutting them out with scissors.  Rotary cutting, fabulous rulers, strip piecing, chain piecing, she was hooked!  Georjean loves the whole process from start to finish of picking a pattern, choosing the fabrics, cutting, piecing and, yes, if it's simple, even the quilting, and binding.  She enjoys making baby quilts because they are fun and easy and can be finished relatively quickly.  As with all of us, time is at a premium so patterns using pre-cuts are a fav!  Georjean has made many of the shop samples, so come on in and check them out!

Georjean loves large-scale, color-saturated fabrics such as those designed by Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler.  She has also become a big fan of Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts and Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company.  We have Edyta's latest fabric line, Snowbird (from Moda) and Jenny's Block magazines and MSQC templates (all of which Georjean plans to make something - so much fabric and ideas, so little time!!)  Currently, her favorite color combination is plum, teals and golds but depending on her mood, it can be anything in either the cool (blues and purples) or warm (oranges and yellows) color family.  One of her favorite notions (and there are many, anything to make your job easier is a plus!) is the Seam-Fix seam ripper.  Georjean does all her sewing and machine embroiders on her Viking Designer SE (if anything ever happened to it, she would be devastated!  Like many of you, she goes through withdrawal when she has to bring it in for its' yearly cleaning).

In addition to working on the floor, Georjean teaches some of the Make-It Take-It classes and she is the store manager.  Please feel free to contact Georjean at the shop or by shop email if there are any issues or comments.  She will be happy to listen and address any concerns.  She and all the Prairie Points staff want to enable Denise in making the shop a place where everyone will find a friendly face, a sympathetic ear, fabulous fabric selection, great quilting advice, excellent machine service,  diverse and informative classes and  an overall fun experience that all will want to keep coming back for more to be a part of our Prairie Points Quilt Shop family!

Georjean's pick for shop special is:  15% off all batting, packaged and by the yard, in-stock only. (Georjean loves using the packaged Dream Poly and Dream Cotton batting  - results are great!)

Applies to in-stock products only.  Valid August 3 thru August 9, 2014
