Improvitude Series - Class 2 - Checkerboards / Multicolor checkerboards

Ditch the patterns and rulers and learn to be your own quilt designer!

Leslie would love to share the knowledge she has gained with you in easy step by step classes to introduce you to the world of modern improv quilt design.

You too can make an Improvitude quilt!

This class is designed as a journey into the world of modern improv piecing. There will be 7 segments of learning so that you have time to learn the skills in small increments and practice making additional units before moving on.

Who should take it:
It is designed for a person who has some experience as a quilter and wants to explore new skills in piecing and modern quilt design.

How to choose fabric:
Improvitude is a very busy quilt with a lot going on. I recommend choosing more modern fabrics with a diversity in colors. With this in mind, choose a background fabric that will go with all of your colors. You might want to consider a fabric that allows the eye a calm place to rest. Try to choose 5 to 6 colors to go with your background fabric. They do not have to be all solids, you can mix and match solids and prints. If you choose to work with some prints, I would also choose a few solids that match colors in your prints or work with low volume prints. You still want your modern quilt to look cohesive.

Instructor Bio: I started quilting 25 years ago and like everyone who learns to quilt, I relied heavily on patterns and rulers to learn the art. It wasn?t long until I started using the patterns as a guideline and incorporated my own vision into each quilt. I definitely wanted something more modern and one of a kind. Six years ago my life was forever changed when I joined the Bloomington Normal Modern Quilt Guild! I met people who encouraged and inspired me to sew my artistic vision. During covid I honed my improv piecing skills by taking online classes from instructors all over the world.
